When the Dawg Squad left Rolla and headed to Carl Junction for the Class 4 District 3 Boys Golf Tournament, they had one thing on their mind. Get back to State as a Team.

Last season the Bulldogs played in the Class 5 St. Louis District and lost a playoff match for 2nd place in the District to St. Louis University High School who would go on to win the Class 6 State Title.

Last year, Chancen Jordan and Canter Bahr qualified as individuals and this year, they decided to take the whole Squad.

The Bulldogs showed up at Briarbrook Golf Course in Carl Junction keeping their eye on two teams, Poplar Bluff and the host team, Carl Junction. Poplar Bluff kept the Bulldogs from achieving their goal of winning a state title in 2024 finishing just ahead of the Bulldogs as Rolla finished 2nd in State.

As expected, it came down to the Big 3 and while the Poplar Bluff would win Districts with a team 300, the Dawg Squad battled through the day, hitting recovery shots to put them in a position to compete and they outpaced Carl Junction, shooting a 305 to the host teams 307.

Coach Zack Nixon, the Dawg Father, was impressed with his team. “The whole team was prepared, and played well.”

Individually, the Bulldogs had 3 players recognized with All-District Honors. Senior Chance Jordan finished 3rd overall shooting an even par, sophomore Canter Bahr finished 5th with a 3 over par 75, and sophomore Wilson Giacomelli finished 12th with a 78.

“Chancen was rock solid from start to finish. Canter was as competitive and fiery as I've ever seen him. Wilson's short game was next level,” said Nixon.

While juniors Dawson Caldwell and Waylon Chapman did not medal, they were integral to the second place finish that punched the teams ticket to State. As has been the case all season, the Bulldog Heart can be found not only in how they play, but how they respond. “Dawson showed incredible determination, resiliency, and grit. Waylon was up and down with birdies and bogeys, but never gave up,” reflected Nixon.

Getting the entire team back to the State tournament is a big deal for Coach Nixon as this team has shown heart all season and is focused on getting that title. “This is the team I wanted to see all year. Whether or not they had their best stuff, they gave it everything, and left it all out there. As hard as they have worked, and with this showing, I have to believe the best is yet to come.”

The Dawg Father and the Dawg Squad will start State Tournament place on Monday May 18th at the Columbia Country Club.
