The Boys Bulldogs Golf season has been anything but predictable. Starting the season with a set schedule only to have events get cancelled due to course availability, of course spring weather, and maybe even a plague of locusts of Biblical proportions.

Okay, maybe not the last one.

But what has been predictable is that the Golf Dawg Squad will compete at every event.  A last minute addition to the schedule in a rush to find matches sent the Bulldogs on the road Thursday to Monett for the Monett Invitational. The Bulldogs won the 13 team event by shooting a 301.

The Monett Invitational was held at Windmill Ridge which is a par 71 course.

This tournament had a twist in how it is structured versus the standard matches. They used the Maxwell format. In this format, the entire squad plays the hole together. When they finish the hole, they drop the worst score, and the team points for the who is the total of the 4 best scores for the hole. playing as a team and dropping the highest score on each hole.

While this was the first time this team had played using the Maxwell format, as a well-rounded group of golfers, they made the most of the format.

With the tournament using live scoring, the Bulldogs knew that they were down one stroke with a hole left to play.

And what an exciting last hole it was!

Coach Zack Nixon recapped the last hole. “Dawson Caldwell almost holed an eagle putt that just missed, but tapped in his birdie. Chancen nailed a 12-15 foot putt for his birdie. Wilson dropped a 10 footer for par. Finally, Canter nailed his five footer for the win.”

Nixon shared how proud he was of this team. “It was awesome to watch the boys perform under pressure that can’t be replicated.”

The Bulldogs came back from one down to finish two strokes better than the host Monett team. Chancen Jordan finished 3rd overall and Canter Bahr finished 5th to earn medals.

Individual scores:

Sr. Chancen Jordan — 72
