Bulldogs Get a Win on Last Day of Missouri River Festival

This article covers the 3rd and 4th games of the Missouri River Festival.
It was 4 games in 3 days for the Bulldog Baseball team after playing 2 games earlier in the week. The Bulldogs amassed 17 errors in the first 3 games of the festival going 0-3 while giving up 33 runs.
But the Bulldogs salvaged the weekend with a 10-0 shutout of St. Charles West on Saturday, finishing 1-3 for the weekend and now sitting at 9-7 overall.
St. Charles West
In the lone win of the weekend, Senior Jenson Thomas threw a 2 hit shut-out over 5 innings. Coach Hohe liked the response from Thomas. “He did what an ace does - he stopped the losing and dominated the opponent.”
Senior Colton Petersmith had a monster offensive game for the Bulldogs to close out the weekend. Going 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and scored a run.
The Bulldogs only committed one error on the game and 8 players stole a base for the Bulldogs.
Kearney
Senior Ruger Covey took the mound against Kearney and Coach Hohe was pleased with his outing. “Ruger pitched unbelievably well against Kearney. He should have only given up 1 run in 6 innings against a very strong lineup.”
Once again, the errors tripped up the Bulldogs as they racked up 6 of them in the game giving up 11 runs on 8 hits.
Offensively Seniors Colton Petersmith went 2 for 4 scoring once and Jack Mrozowicz went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored one. Both of CPs hits went for extra bases with a double and a single.
Reflecting on the Freshmen Tourney Win
With the varsity Bulldogs wrapping up their games in the morning, they were able to make their way back and cheer on the Freshmen Team in their title game.
Coach Hohe was excited for the performance by the freshmen Bulldogs. “I want to give a shoutout to Coach Owens, Coach Lott and our 16 9th graders as they took home the Rolla C-Team Tournament Championship last night with a 13-12 victory over Capital City.”
In the title game, the Bulldogs were down 12-7 going to the bottom of the 7th and facing 2-outs they rallied to walk off the game 13-12 with a bases loaded single.
Being a C Team tournament, it allows for other schools to expand beyond a freshmen only team and get some sophomore and JV kids some extra reps. ”Our Freshmen more than held their own. Coaches did a great job of managing their pitching staff to get 4 victories in 2 days covering 22 innings.”
