May 5th, 2026
It was Cinco de Mayo for the Bulldogs as they headed down highway 63 to take on the #3 ranked team in Class 3 the Licking Wildcats. The 5th of May. So how did the Bulldogs celebrate Cinco de Mayo… maybe at 4x as they put up 20 runs and defeated Licking 20-5.
Maybe their celebration was x 4 as in the 20 wins they now have for the season.
Maybe they celebrated with the 5 RBIs that senior Jenson Thomas recorded.
Maybe they celebrated by putting up 7 runs in inning number 5.
But ultimately, the Bulldogs did celebrate the 5th day of May with their 12th win in a row.
Bulldogs Offense Arrived Like a Flash Flood
The Bulldogs trickled in runs every inning of the game with 7 runs in the first 4 innings. Then the banks of the Wildcats defense could no longer hold the momentum until the Bulldog Offense broke through with 7 runs in the 5th followed by 6 runs in the top of the 6th which proved to be the end of the downpour as the game was called due to run differential.
The Bulldogs were cruising along with a 7 to 2 lead as they moved into the bottom half of the 4th inning. As a light rain began to fall, the Bulldog allowed 4 walks and gave up 2 singles, as Licking scored 3 runs to cut the Bulldog lead to 2, 7-5.
The energy in the Wildcat dugout flipped a switch for the Bulldogs and they decided to put a stop to it.
The Bulldogs started the 5th with three singles in a row. Junior Blaine Sbabo and senior Logan Jenkins reach base. An RBI single by junior Chase Williams brings across the first run of the inning.
An out followed by a couple of walks scores a second run for the Bulldogs and leaves the bases loaded.
Up the plate comes Thomas, the Angelo State signee. This may not be the same as the tale of Babe Ruth guaranteeing a home run to an ill child at the hospital, but it can still put a smile on your face.

A Grand Birthday Gift
Before the game, his mom reminded him that she would love to have a Grand Slam for her birthday. I’m not sure that when Jenson laughed and replied “okay, I will” he had any clue that he would be in the position to fulfill that request.
But did he ever. Thomas took the 2-2 pitch for an opposite field Grand Slam blast! In the accompanying video you can hear dad say, “He did it!” Thomas said “it was definitely one of hte best gifts I have given her for sure.”
The 14 to 5 lead was not enough for the Bulldogs as they piled on 6 more runs in the top of the 6th and then shut down the Wildcats with a 3 up 3 down performance by senior Landon Brown to finish the game.
Wrap Up
When a team gets 20 runs on 17 hits, you know the offense's success was contagious. Five Bulldogs had multiple RBIs in the game. Led by Thomas with 5, seniors Landen Richter, Ruger Covey, junior Williams, and sophomore Kyllian Ace all had 2.
Covey and Thomas each had 3 hits while seniors Colton Petersmith and Riker Snodgrass along with William head had 2 hits.
Senior Jack Mrozowicz recorded the win pitching 3.1 innings with Brown coming on in relief pitching 2.2 innings.
This is only the 3rd time since 2009 that the Bulldogs have reached the 20 win mark.
The Bulldogs are on a 12 game win streak as they are less than two weeks away from District play.
