It was a season for the ages for the Rolla High School Baseball team. They set the school record for the most wins at 26. On the way to set that record they reeled off 18 wins in a row - another school record.
They recorded their first perfect game, they had 4 no-hitters, and a total of 8 shutouts. It was an incredible ride that was cut short in the loaded Class 6 District 2 tournament featuring four 20 win teams. The 1-0 heartbreaking loss on Thursday to the #1 seed in district and #7 in the State Eureka Wildcats, left the team at a 26-8 record.

It was a historic season for a historic class boasting 6 seniors committing to continue their baseball career in college.

Another Great Pitching Dual
Following up the tremendous first round pitching match-up where Ruger Covey pitched a gem against Parkway South for a 1-0 victory, this semifinal game against #7 ranked Eureka proved to be another defensive performance. For the season, Eureka surrenders just 2.1 runs per game and the Bulldogs have been dominant on the mound during their 18 game winning streak.
The Bulldog ace and Angelo State signee, senior righty Jenson Thomas was called upon to go up against the highly touted Eureka team. Eureka called on one of their 3 pitchers who are going to pitch at D1 SEMO in Cape Girardeau, John Haberkorn.
Just like the opening round game, the pitching performance did not disappoint.
Thomas pitched 6 innings allowing 4 hits and a single unearned run. He struck out 3 while not walking a batter.
Eureka’s Haberkorn threw a complete game shutout, giving up 3 hits, striking out 5 but walking 2.
Neither Offense Could Get Loose
The pitching by both teams limited the number of base runners and in turn getting those that did reach base into scoring position to manufacture runs. The ball was put into play consistently with only the combined 2 walks and 8 strikeouts between the teams.
The start of the game looked promising for the Bulldogs as lead-off hitter senior Colton Petersmith reached base on an infield single. A sacrifice bunt by senior Landen Richter moved CP to 2nd. Senior Jack Mrozowicz, who hit the game winning home run in the first district game, reached after being hit by a pitch.

The lone run came in the bottom of the 5th when the lead off hitter for Eureka reached on an error and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. A stolen base put the baserunner at 3rd and followed by a single to right field scored what proved to be the game winning run.
Now trailing 1-0 heading into the top of the 6th, Mrozowicz leads off for the Bulldogs. Once again, Mrozowicz is hit by a pitch to put him on base. Back-to-back bunts put Mrozowicz on 3rd but the Eureka defense stayed disciplined and both bunts ended up being sacrifices. Mrozowicz ended up being stranded at 3rd.
The Bulldogs offense was led by Petersmith who was the only Bulldog to record a hit going 3 for 3 from the lead off position.
It was a historic, record-breaking season for the Bulldogs that generated excitement in the program and the community. But was a season that was over way too soon for this Bulldog Team.
We will recap the season and the historic run with Coach Hohe on an upcoming Inside the Huddle show.
