With the success that the Junior Varsity had in holding the Union JV to 4 points in the opening game, the Varsity team decided to keep the pressure going. They used their own defensive pressure to jump out to a 27-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Bulldogs move to 15-10 on the season in one of their most complete games of the season with a 75-15 victory over Union.
Unleash the Hounds!!!
Coach Charley Parker belonged in an old British movie trying to hold back the hounds from their hunt. Because when the horn sounded, they were unleashed! The Lady Bulldogs defense created havoc all night and their offensive put as much pressure on the Union Wildcats as their defense.
Coach Parker knew that the Lady Bulldogs had a big size advantage and wasted no time finding their 5’10” Fr forward Rylee Anderson in the post as she went to work establishing the inside game with 10 points in the quarter.
With the Union defense focusing on trying to stop Anderson and her left-hand jump hook, that allowed for some open looks from the outside. Hitting two from beyond the arc was 5’7” Fr guard Addy Deremo as well as 5’4” So guard Shine Martia who came off the bench and picked-up where she left off in the JV game and connected on a 3 pointer.
Forcing the Union defense to spread out once again, opened up the driving lanes for 5'10” So guard Madison Hutton and 5’8” Sr guard Mariah Watkins who each recorded 4 points in the 27-7 quarter which included a 20-0 run.
The Defense Didn’t Let Up
When a team has such a dominant quarter, it’s easy for them to become complacent and relax. But not this time. The Lady Bulldogs defense was even more stifling if possible, only allowing 3 points in the 2nd quarter. The key to maintaining the blanket on the Union scoring was limiting their own turnovers that had led to some early buckets for Union in the first period.
The Lady Bulldogs forced 30 turnovers on the evening while only committing 9 of their own. The crispness of their offensive game paid off with 25 assists on the evening on their way to their highest scoring output since losing All-State Jr guard Rylee Dodson to injury.
The Lady Bulldogs would lead 42-10 going into the intermission with 7 different players scoring. They would hold Union scoreless in the 3rd and only 5 points in the running clock shortened 4th quarter. It was a dominant team win for the Lady Bulldogs with a 60 points differential, 75-15.
The Wrap Up
It was a great well-rounded win for the Lady Bulldogs after their disappointing loss last time out to St. Francis Borgia. All 10 players that dressed played with 9 of the players scoring. The JV players who also play varsity were able to max out their quarters as the starters did not play the 3rd quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs outrebounded the Wildcats 25-10. They were led in rebounding by 5’10” So forward Riley Hollis with 6 coming off of the bench and only playing the final 3 quarters. Deremo and Watkins each had 4 rebounds.
Deremo led the team in assists followed by 5'10” Fr guard Bella Campbell with 5, while Watkins and Hutton each had 4. On the defensive side where they forced 30 turnvoers, Deremo and Hutton each had 5 steals while Watkins added 4.

Lady Bulldogs Defense Holds Union to 4 Points
The Lady Bulldogs defense was stifling all night creating turnovers and getting steals. On their way to an 18-2 first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs did allow a single shot attempt until 1:20 left in the first quarter.
While the Lady Bulldogs pulled off their press, the defensive presence still made the Lady Wildcats uncomfortable as they held Union to 4 points on the night with only 6 shot attempts for the game.
The Lady Bulldogs moved to 21-0 with the 46-4 win. Coach Allen was able to work his substitution pattern to get plenty of playing time for all 11 players with 8 of them scoring.
