May 2nd, 2026

The Bulldogs netters entered into the Class 2 District 5 Individual Tournament on April 30th thru May 2nd.

The format allows each school to play two Doubles Teams and two Individuals. The Bulldogs put forward their Dubs 1 and Dubs 2 teams while Connor Johnson and Logan Dunn entered the Singles Bracket.

The Bulldogs Dubs 1 will be advancing to the State Tournament as they finished 2nd to the Lebanon Doubles 1 team. The Bulldogs Dubs 2 and Connor Johnson each finished 4th and earned All-District honors.

Dubs 1 is headed to State, Dubs 2 earns All-District

The Bulldog Dubs 1 team of senior Keaton Renaud and Kyle Robinson were locked in early in the day and defeated a couple of quality teams to punch their ticket to state and into the district championship match.  The top two finishers in the Doubles Bracket from each District will advance to the State Playoffs.

Coach Josh Vinyard was pleased with the Dubs 1 performance. “They were really dialed in and had improved on a few things that they needed to get better at and it showed.”

The Championship was another rematch against a team they knew well, the Doubles 1 for the Lebanon Yellowjackets.

The Bulldogs jumped out early to take a 4-2 lead in the first set but Lebanon responded and won the next 4 games, as the Bulldogs dropped the first set.  Coach Vinyard felt that the Dubs 1 had opportunities to get that first set but came up short.

Vinyard talked about the quality of the Lebanon pair and was proud of how his team battled and competed.  “They are a really good doubles team, and they just don't make too many mistakes.  The margin for error versus them is really small.”

The Dubs 2 Team of seniors Cameron Brown and Paxton Ledbetter won their first doubles match which placed them in the semifinals against Lebanon's #1.  “The score doesn't indicate how they played versus. Lebanon, but I was pleased with their intensity and focus,” said Vinyard.

In the 3rd place match, Brown and Ledbetter felt in a tough match against Camdenton's #1 doubles team.

All 4 doubles players earned All-District honors.

Connor Johnson earns All-District with 4th place finish

Senior Connor Johnson played well throughout the day.  Johnson defeated Lebanon's #6 in the first round and then beat JC's #1 in the quarterfinal. “Connor played really great against both.  He consistently hit his first serve in and was good at attacking the net when the opportunity was there,” commented Vinyard.

Johnson’s run was cut short as he faced the eventual District Champion, Helias' #1, in the semifinal. In the 3rd place game, Johnson battled the Helias' #3. for third place.  It was a tight match but the Helias #3 secured the last couple of games.

Johnson’s 4th place finish earned him All-District honors and leaves him sitting at 19-8 on the season and will have a chance to pass the 20 win mark in the upcoming Team District Matches.

Preparing for Districts

This coming week will be the seeding meeting for districts. Currently, Rolla is sitting on top of the standings with an 18-1 record and Lebanon and Republic both having a record of 13-5. Rolla has split with Lebanon this season.

Monday and Tuesday they will be playing district foes with Helias and then Camdenton on the docket. Rolla defeated Camdenton earlier this season 7-2, but the Lakers have caught their stride and recently played Lebanon 5-4 and beat Cap City.

Coach Vinyard is excited about the possibility of getting the top seed and being able to host district matches. “ It will be important that we stay humble and hungry next week so we can secure the #1 seed in the team district and host all of our district matches.”

District Team Play

The Bulldogs had a first round bye awaiting the winner of the Cap City and Helias contest. Helias upset Capital City and was scheduled to play in Rolla on Tuesday the 4th.

With the rain, the match was pushed back to Wednesday at Ber Juan with a 4pm start time.
