It was the 5th year in a row that the Rolla Bulldogs Tennis team has found success in the Waynesville Invitational finishing in either first or second.
This year the Bulldogs squad came up short to a very good Forsyth team that should be a Class 1 Final Four team, as they finished the day with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finish.
The Bulldogs finished with the Dubs 2 of Cam Brown and Paxton Ledbetter repeating as the Doubles 2 Bracket champions and our Dubs 1 of Keaton Renaud and Kyle Robinson finishing in 3rd in Doubles 1 Bracket.
The Invitational Format
The format for the Waynesville Invitational consists of 4 brackets. Each bracket is seeded in a 10 team bracket. There are brackets for Doubles 1 and Doubles 2 as well as Singles brackets for Singles 1 and Singles 2. Players cannot play in both doubles and singles.
There are individual and team awards. The team standings is based upon points assigned to finishes in the 4 brackets. A 1st place finish is worth 8 points, a 2nd place finish is 6 points, 3rd is 4 points, 4th is 2 points, and winning the consolation bracket gets your team 1 point.
Finding Success
Our Dubs 1 received the #2 seed in the Doubles 1 Bracket. They won their first match against Camdenton, 8-1, and then took at tough loss to Waynesville's #1 doubles team. The duo bounced back and won third place with a dominant win over Farmington, 8-1.
Our Dubs 2 had the #1 seed. They won their first match against Clever 8-3, then advanced to the championship with another 8-3 win over Lebanon. In the championship match they finished off Forsyth with a commanding 8-1 victory.
Coach Vinyard was excited for the pair as it was back to back championships in Doubles bracket #2. “They both are playing with a ton of confidence and are playing as good as any doubles team that we have had over the last handful of years.”
In singles, senior Connor Johnson won his first match, lost to the #2 seed, and then got a really solid win vs. Farmington's #1 ranked player.

Preparing for Districts
This coming week will be the seeding meeting for districts. Currently, Rolla is sitting on top of the standings with an 18-1 record and Lebanon and Republic both having a record of 13-5. Rolla has split with Lebanon this season.
Monday and Tuesday they will be playing district foes with Helias and then Camdenton on the docket. Rolla defeated Camdenton earlier this season 7-2, but the Lakers have caught their stride and recently played Lebanon 5-4 and beat Cap City.
Coach Vinyard is excited about the possibility of getting the top seed and being able to host district matches. “ It will be important that we stay humble and hungry next week so we can secure the #1 seed in the team district and host all of our district matches.”
