April 2nd, 2026
It was a day marked by spring weather, game cancellations, adding games, come from behind victories, and playing games until midnight.
Whatever the challenge, the Bulldogs answered with the varsity winning 10-9 coming from behind to beat the previously undefeated Licking Wildcats and the Bulldogs JV no-hitting the Crocker Lions JV and winning 10-0 in a game that carried on to Midnight.
Responding to the Weather
The weather came rolling through the area and the Bulldogs road baseball game scheduled for Thursday at Iberia was cancelled due to field conditions. With the FNCB field looking pretty good, the Bulldogs tried to salvage the day.
Logistical issues kept Iberia from hitting the road to change locations to Rolla, so the Bulldogs Athletic Department got on the phone and was able to help out a couple of other teams who were forced to cancel games as well.
Frisco league teams, the Licking Wildcats and the Crocker Lions were ready and willing and made their way to Rolla for an evening of games.
To accommodate multiple teams, the first game was scheduled to start at 3pm with Rolla taking on Licking. In the second game, Licking and Crocker varsity teams would play their game that was cancelled due to weather. In the night cap, the Rolla JV would play the Crocker JV.
Battling From Behind
It was a crazy game to kick off the day as the Bulldogs were trailing 6 to 9 in the bottom of the 6th where they put up 4 runs and held on for the 10-9 victory over the Licking Wildcats.
The Bulldogs never led until the bottom of the 6th. While they only gave up 5 hits on the day, the Bulldog Arm Barn walked 15 batters, including walking in several runners.
The Bulldogs would tie it in the 4th at 6 when senior second baseman Landen Richter singled down the right field line. Richter, who is hitting .323 on the season, went 4 for 4 for the game, knocking in 2 RBIs and scoring twice.
Licking responded by putting up 3 more runs over the next two innings as the Bulldogs, who never, came up in the bottom of the 6th trailing 6 to 9.
Getting the Win
Starting the inning with our 8 spot, Coach Hohe, channeling his inner Whitey Herzog, used some “small ball” with singles and a sacrifice bunt to get the offense moving.
Junior Chase Williams singles to right followed by senior Colton Petersmith getting hit by a pitch. Richter comes to the plate and knocks in his 2nd RBI on a ground ball that found the gap into right field scoring one.
CP used his speed to get into scoring position and is able to come home on a wild pitch getting us within one. A walk by senior Jack Mrozowicz and a sacrifice by senior Jenson Thomas puts both runners into scoring position.
Out comes senior third baseman Riker Snodgrass.
With runners on 2nd and 3rd, one out and facing 2 strikes, Snodgrass pounded a double into left field driving in two runs including the go ahead run.
I asked Snodgrass what was going through his head at that moment. “I got up to the plate with the thought to do damage. I ended up with 2 strikes and had to change up my approach, so I shortened up to do a job and ended up hitting a ball hard over the left fielder.”
Thomas would close out the game in a no-hit 7th inning with the Bulldogs come back complete, winning 10-9.
Wrap Up
Before the season, we spoke with Snodgrass on Inside the Huddle about his increased power at the plate. He is batting .406 with 10RBIs and leads the team in extra base hits. I asked him how he feels about where he is currently with his offensive output?
““I’m happy yet not satisfied. We talked about all of the work that was put in this offseason and I most definitely expected this from myself.”
I spoke with Richter after the game about his clutch performance in getting the RBI to tie the game in the bottom of the 4th then getting the scoring started with another RBI Single in the critical 6th inning.
“I went up there with confidence not trying to do too much, keeping things simple, trusting my technique and just trying to do a job that would help my team succeed when it mattered most.”
In a game where we couldn’t seem to string the hits together, Richter was confident the team would complete the comeback.
“I’m always confident that we can come back in games where we’re down. We have talent from top to bottom in our lineup and I knew we would put something together and make something happen.”
The Bulldogs are sitting at 7-3 on the season and while they have had some good wins, they also feel there is much that can be improved. “The team and I have had a good start to this season, but I know for a fact that none of us are satisfied with where we are at and our grind together won’t stop until we are,” said Snodgrass.
Bulldog JV No Hits the Lions
It was a night cap game that required a night cap as the day finished up at midnight for the JV Squad in their impromptu game against the Crocker Lions.
The Bulldogs dominated the Lions with a 10-0 no-hit shut-out. Bulldog Pitchers combined for a 5 inning no-hit shutout. Ty Jenkins, Westin Richards, & Quentin Girondo combined for 8 strikeouts and only 2 walks.
Connor Hirtz went 3 for 3 with an RBI, scored a run and stole 2 bases.
Dominic Spinaio went 2 for 2 with an RBI and scored a run.
As a team the Bulldogs stole 5 bases
