To quote the iconic words of Bill Murray’s character in Ghost Busters, it was “dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria.”
The first annual Cat vs Dog Showdown was a fun event for all of the teams, but especially for the winning Bulldogs Track and Field squads as both the Boys and Girls teams took first in the team event.
1st Annual Cat vs Dog Showdown

The first annual Cat vs Dog Showdown may not have worked out the way they planned, but it was a great event for the athletes that were there.
It was intended to be a unique event featuring a multi-team competition made up of programs with mascots associated with either a Cat or a Dog. Then the scoring - instead of going to an individual team, would go to either the Cat squad or the Dog squad. With the ultimate winners of the event being associated with the felines or the canines.
Representing the Felidae, or the Cat family, were the host Logan-Rogersville Wildcats, the Billings Wildcats, and the Hollister Tigers.
Teams representing the Canidae, or the Dog family of canines were the Rolla Bulldogs and the Reeds Spring Wolves.
Furthermore, it served as a fundraiser event where they sold commemorative shirts with the proceeds going to a local animal shelter.
Unfortunately a team had to drop out, so the format reverted back to a traditional meet.
Coach Cody Sneed said it was a great atmosphere at this inaugural event. “The kids had a great time. They were all competing against each other, while still being supportive.”

The Bulldogs had Bark and Bite
One of the great features of this event is that you could bring your entire team to compete instead of limiting the number of participants in the events. Plenty of Bulldogs athletes were able to compete and they racked up 72 PRs on the day!
The Bulldogs came away with a combined 42 medals at the event. Including 10 first place finishes, 18 second place finishes and 14 3rd place finishes.
Multiple athletes came away with multiple medals at the meet. Some of those athletes who had outstanding performances are included below.
Freshman Grace Fontenot had a bid day with two first place finishes in the 400m and the Pole Vault. She was also part of the mixed 4x400 Relay that finished in 2nd.
Sophomore Bennett Duehning won the boys 300m Hurdles, was on both the 4x200m relay team and the mixed 4x400m relay team that took first. He also took 2nd in the 110m hurdles. Duhening set PR’s in both of his individual events and his 300m hurdle time was the 16th best time in the State this season.
Sophomore Madison Hutton won the girls 200m, and was part of the winning mixed 4x400 Relay team. Hutton placed 2nd in both the 100m and 400m events.
Sophomore Cruz Wilkins was part of the winning boys 4x200m relay team and the mixed 4x400m relay team. He also finished 2nd in the 400m and 3rd in the 200m
