Salem Tiger Runners Preparing for Districts
October 14, 2026
It has been a packed week for the Salem Tigers Cross Country squad. 3 Meets in 5 days. Events allowing runners to prepare for districts and a state run. Great performance by both teams at Conference with the Girls Squad earning the best finish in school history. A busy week, but much more to come.
3 Events in a Week
Licking on Thursday, SCA (South Central Association) Conference Meet on Monday, followed by Owensville on Tuesday.
Licking was our tune up to get ready for the SCA conference meet. Owensville is where districts will be held so we were just using that as a practice and getting to see the course we will run during districts. We didn't have a full team at Owensville as some of the runners opted to be part of FFA competitions.
We did not disappoint at Monday’s SCA conference meet.
Showing Out at Conference
The boys came in 5th out of the 8 conference schools. Our individual places moved up from the last time we ran against conference schools at Willow Springs at the start of the year. With 7 freshmen our goal was a top 5 finish. We ran close together as usual. We managed to hold off runners from Ava, Cabool and Thayer to get that top 5 finish. Mountain Grove won the conference with Houston finishing 2nd. I couldn't be more proud of the boys. We have improved all season, and we are starting to see better team finishes.
The girls came in 2nd to Houston. Three girls with top 20 finishes. Abbi Terrill and Bea Hovey just missed being all conference. All conference goes to the top 15 runners and Bea finished 17th with Abbi coming in 19th. I really appreciate their hard work.
Zoey was Zoey. She finished 3rd earning all conference honors for the fourth straight year. She has been an all conference runner every year of high school. Second is the highest team finish at conference in school history.
What a great season for the girls program.
Looking forward
We finish up the regular season on Monday Oct 19 with our last invitational at Cuba. Districts will be held in Owensville on Saturday Oct 31.
