Rolla Tennis Splits Two Matches this Week with Another Match Tonight at Battle

The Rolla Lady Bulldogs Tennis team lost a tough home match against Willow Springs on Monday, 4 to 5, while getting a win on the road at Jefferson City, Wednesday night, 5 to 4.

The Lady Bulldogs recorded three wins in singles competition and one win in doubles format. Singles 1, jr. Morgan Semon won her match 8 to 5 and Singles 2, so. Charlotte Sands won her contest 8 to 6. Recording the 3rd win in singles play was #6 Jr. Jana Algraiw getting the 8-4 victory.
The Doubles 2 team of Fr. Tatiana Olbrist and Macy Page took the lone doubles match for the Bulldogs, 8-5.
Coach Cody Martin was excited about the performance of Semon and Sands in their singles competition.
"Morgan Semon and Charlotte caught fire in singles. They were hitting it hard down the middle and when the ball popped up high above the net they had the skill to start controlling the point from there. Morgan and Charlotte have put enough time into the sport to turn dink tennis into real tennis. Go from checkers to chess."
Lady Bulldogs with Road Win Against Jeff City, 5 to 4
Freshman Tatiana Olbrist was able to get two wins for Rolla in Wednesday’s contest. She was able to get a win as Singles 3, 8 to 5, then teaming up with sr. Macy Page in Doubles 2, they recorded another victory, 8 to 6.
Other Singles winners for the Lady Bulldogs included Jr. Krya Hawkins at Singles 5, 8-5, and Jr. Jana Algraiw at Singles 6 with the 8-0 shutout.
The other Doubles win came at Doubles 3 with sophomores Caitlin Bunch and Brooke Penton getting a dominant 8-3 win.
Coach Martin talked about the performance of his freshman on varsity and the impact she made in Wednesday’s victory.
"Tatiana Obrist is the player of the day. She's a freshman at Varsity's #3 spot and was able to get 2 out of the 5 points to clutch a 5-4 victory. Her attitude is infectious and her discipline to train after practice and during the weekends is showing."

Heading to play 3-9 Battle this afternoon. The Rolla Lady Bulldogs are 6-0 versus Battle all time but this season, they are playing similar against common opponents. They both defeated Jeff City, 5-4, and they both lost to Hickman with Rolla falling 2-7 while Battle lost 3-6.
