The Licking Summer Camps were founded in 1993 to give an opportunity for local basketball teams to get games in the summer. Starting in Licking, Mo, it has grown into one of the largest such programs in the midwest.
The Rolla Bulldogs have had multiple teams playing in the camps this June as have the St. James Tigers and the Salem Tigers. We have had both boys and girls basketball teams as well as the Lady Bulldogs Volleyball teams participating in some of the Licking Camps this summer in Rolla. Varsity, Junior Varsity and some of the Junior High Squads have all participated.
June 5th & 6th in Rolla
In the opening weekend of the Licking Summer Camps in Rolla, a couple of local girls were named Co-MVPs of the All-Camp Team. Sophomore Bella Campbell of Rolla and senior Payge Kemnitzer of St. James.
Other local players named to the All-Camp team were junior Madison Hutton of Rolla and Adalee Richardson of St. James. A full list of the All-Camp Teams are at the end of the post.
On the Boys side, St. James ended up winning the bracket play on the final day. Junior Issac Smith of St. James was named MVP of the camp. He was joined by senior James Scheck of Rolla, junior Eli Woffard of Salem, and senior Jaxen Spurgeon of St. James.
Lady Bulldogs Volleyball
The Lady Bulldogs Volleyball teams played in the Licking Camps on June 12th and 13th. Junior Chloe Caffey from Rolla was named to the All-Camp team. Caffey is a transfer from Camdenton where she was an All-District volleyball and basketball player. Coach Nick Zink was pleased with the performance of his Lady Bulldogs at all levels.
New Leaders, New Look Squads
The Rolla and St. James boys basketball teams graduated a ton of seniors allowing opportunities for players to step up and lead their respective teams in the new season. Rolla’s James Scheck and St. James’ Isaac Smith announced their arrival as the new leaders for their programs.
Rolla senior guard James Scheck is the lone rotational player for the Rolla Bulldogs who graduated eight seniors including 3x All-State guard Ethan Brown, who left the school as the career scoring, assists, steals leaders. Scheck will be charged with leading an inexperienced squad that graduated 97% of their scoring and 96% of their rebounding.
But Scheck has made huge strides for the Bulldogs on and off the court. Beginning with open runs, Scheck has been the undeniable leader for the Bulldogs as he has been named to All-Camp teams in all of the shootouts they have attended. His ability to score at all three levels while getting his teammates involved is proving to be a solid foundation on which the Bulldogs can build.
Junior Isaac Smith of St. James isn’t lacking for experience as he will be playing his 3rd year of varsity and having started as a freshmen, but his role has dramatically changed from strictly a facilitator for the offense to the key playmaker that is stirring the drink for the program.
Smith has increased his physicality from last year and is attacking the rim and finishing with contact. This new confidence is allowing him to score at all three levels and already a willing passer, has provided more opportunities for his teammates to get involved. Smith has been named the MVP of all three Licking Camps they participated in this summer.
The St. James Tigers are looking promising this summer after having to replace a large graduating class. They went 23-0 in the last 3 weekends of the Licking Summer Camps. St. James will be making a statement this coming season.
Senior Payge Kemnitzer of St. James continues her strong play as she was named to three All-Camp teams and taking home MVP honors in two of them.
