Bulldog Golf Wins Season Opener

The Rolla Bulldogs made the short drive down I-44 to open up their season at the Piney Valley Golf Course at Ft. Leonard Wood. Coach Zack Nixon said the boys have been put in the time on their own and it showed.
The Waynesville Quad featured four area golf teams; 2 large schools and 2 small schools.
In a match-up of former Ozark Conference rivals, host Waynesville and Rolla would battle throughout the day with the Rolla team winning the 9 hole match by 10 strokes over the Tigers who came in second.
The smaller schools featured Belle who finished in 3rd place scoring 179 while the Crocker Lions in the final spot with a score of 220.
Bulldogs Finding Their Range
Considering it was the opening contest of the season, Coach Nixon was pleased with his team's performance. “It was a great start for the team.”
During the Inside the Huddle preview show, Coach Nixon said the focus for the team was on working their wedges to help the teams overall ability to score.
“The boys stuck some wedges, but the greens were slow, which made putting difficult even from close range.”
The long ball proved to be the differentiator in the contest as their drives and wedge games more than made up for the putting challenges. “They had a majority of the tees pulled back which played to our advantage.”
Top Honors
The Bulldogs had two golfers part of a three way tie for Medalist honors with a score of 38 on 9 holes. Junior Dawson Caldwell and Freshman Wilson Giacomelli in his first varsity meet were the Bulldog medalists along with Colton Fidler of Waynesville.
Senior Chancen Jordan and Junior Waylon Chapman were both just two shots off the lead with each shooting 40.
